In 1985 the first ready to wear (prêt-a-porter) clothing line was launched, characterized by high quality fabrics, with classic tones. This established Prada clothing has become the epitome of elegance and excellence. As early as 1993 she received the International Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and in 1995 the “Designer of the Year” award. In 1992 a new line of Prada clothing was introduced, called Miu Miu, after Miuccia’s Italian nickname, which distanced itself from the usual strict ad conservative features. This Prada clothing line is targeting a younger audience, more relaxed but interested in combining the new trends with the qualities of the old classic tones. The critics called it high-end bohemian, chic or just vintage.

After Miu Miu, an even more casual line ensued, the Prada Sport collection. With the first boutique open in Los Angeles, Prada and Miu Miu took over North America for good, with every celebrity and conservative personality sporting the precious creations of Prada.

The Prada clothing style can fool you because of the simple, classic lines but it is its great influences in the fashion industry that prove Miuccia’s esthetic talents for real quality, and genuine class. She uses predominantly polyester, nylon and other synthetic fabrics; as for colors, Prada’s trademark is using earthly shades of green, cream, grey, brown, black and white.

Prada clothing does not concentrate on being fashionable but rather adopting the classic conservative and enriching it with functionality. The delicate fabrics work in spontaneous shapes, without definite accents. Prada clothing is minimalist with straight faced sexiness, avoiding uncovering too much skin.

The designer house challenges unusual combinations of textures like creating trench coats and twin sets out of silk faille, or trimming nylon parkas with mink. In the men’s department, Prada tried to define the refined, intellectual business man. But Miuccia never stops innovating. For example in the 2005 Fall/Winter collection she managed to bring together gentry and country features in an urban environment with camel coats, velvet tuxedos, faux patchwork, paisley shirts and wool suits. As fabrics are concerned, the collection included Shetland tweeds in elegant suits and old-fashioned materials for snug pants.
